WIRED Online: The Economy Is Making Friends With the Basic Income

Digitizing the economy will threaten at least 1.5m jobs in Germany – authorities estimate. Could an unconditional basic income compensate inevitable social distortions? On a panel at Germany’s leading business conference  “Economic Summit” organized by German tier-1 daily Süddeutsche Zeitung, IT business leaders discussed this question with tech admonishers and philosophers – among them Chris Boos, CEO of Arago, who campaigned for the change: “If we always preserve the old, many of you would still build horse-drawn carriages.” According to Boos, an unconditional basic income may pave a socially acceptable way for the transition from preserving to shaping society and economy.
