Die Welt: To Write and to Have Written: Will Robot Journalism Decrypt the Magic That Is Language?
On May 11, 2017, Die Welt published an article that addresses the complexity of language and debates if the intricacies of language can be replicated by AI programs or robots. Chris Boos is quoted as an artificial intelligence (AI) specialist with the phrase: “Language is magical.”
A recent study from the Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich showed that readers cannot differentiate between an article written by a journalist or a software program. In fact, articles written by software were frequently viewed as more credible, as these often contained more facts. However, the study also showed that readers preferred reading more complex articles written by journalists, such as commentaries, interviews and investigative pieces. A conceivable long-term development includes articles written by both journalists as well as AI software.
