Junge Welt – The Real Problems

Chris Boos, founder and CEO of Arago, is featured with his progressive views on artificial intelligence (AI) and its impact on societies in an article in the left-leaning German daily Junge Welt. Boos statements are outtakes of an interview with business magazine Bilanz from September 2017.

Boos does not share Elon Musk’s fears about intelligent machines ruling humanity in the future. “The replica human being, the AI with self-consciousness and feelings – nobody knows how to build something like that”, he argues. Boos further states that 30 percent of what is considered an AI at the moment would be simple statistics. The article also prominently presents Arago’s AI solution HIRO. It is summarized as a technology able to adapt its algorithms to new challenges and asks users for feedback and input. In this way, HIRO™ can be used for IT-system monitoring, in research, education as well as in purchasing departments. Arago’s top clients, such as Swiss Bank UBS and steel trader Klöckner, are also mentioned. The summary of Arago’s successes closes with KKR’s 50 million Euro investment into Arago in 2014.

Furthermore, the article includes statements of philosopher Thomas Metzinger, who considers the idea that machines would take control over human societies as absurd. Luciano Floridi of the Oxford Internet Institute is also mentioned and further supports this argument by saying: “700 million people have no access to clean water and he [Elon Musk] argues that the biggest threat for our world is to be taken over by a terminator? – This is immoral.”
